BIOGRAPHY

As an instrumental guitarist, Mike burst on the scene in 2010 with his debut release Native Alien (Shredguy Records). The album went on to become Guitar Nine Records'#1 selling record for the entire year.  With international distribution in the United States, Europe, Japan and Indonesia, Mike has built a world-wide fan base and has been featured in print magazines around the globe. The Mike Abdow Group was formed in the spring of 2011 to play his brand of instrumental rock/fusion guitar music. The band performs regionally in the States and has opened for the likes of Joe Stump among others. In addition to his instrumental endeavors, Mike is a member of Prosthetic Records' dynamic progressive metal powerhouse Last Chance To Reason, Boston's premier progressive metal band Frozen, and the highly successful regional 80's cover band Aquanett.

Mike was born in 1983 in Springfield, MA. He grew up listening to a range of music from Michael Jackson and early 90’s R&B to grunge, alternative and metal. Guitar playing began at the age of 13 but was not pursued with dedication until he was about 18 years old. At this time he attended Holyoke Community College where he studied jazz and classical music; completing an A.A. in music. He also complemented his college education with private lessons from guitar virtuoso Tom Kopyto. Since cutting his first demo in 2004 (Redemption ’04, Native Alien), Mike has gone on to release numerous full length records and appear on multiple guitar-based compilations and guest solo spots. Mike's music is steeped in metal, rock and jazz but retains a lot of the musical and production qualities found in his early influences from the 80’s and 90’s.
